Dear Newborn Parents

Seriously, congratulations on your upcoming arrival. This is such a precious time! and you must be feeling so excitied. There is no better way to remember this special time than with a newborn photo shoot by a professional photographer (not a friend with a camera).

I am lucky enough to have a large studio, for your comfort, with a lifestyle room for those candid natural newborn photos with family. Plus a seperate studio space dedicated to the more posed "baby in a bucket" style of newborn photography. I can offer the best of both worlds!!!

I encourage partners and children to be involved and have chocolate on hand to bribe both the toddlers and the dads!

I have put together the following frequently asked questions so that you know what to expect during your newborn photography shoot.

FAQ - NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY 

When should I book my newborn photos?

To avoid disappointment the best time to book your newborn baby photo shoot is in your second trimester. Newborn photo shoots are held in the first two weeks of life, preferably between 7-10 days old.

Newborn photography photo shoots are booked in on your due date, for booking purposes only, once baby is born I ask you to notify me within 48 hours of the baby’s birth so I can schedule you in and give you a few options on session dates and times. A quick text or email is fine, no need to call. 

All babies are beautiful no matter how old, so if you have missed the two-week window don't worry, give me a call and we can still work something out. 

When & where are newborn photo shoots held?
Newborn sessions are held Monday-Friday at 10am. My portrait studio is located in Belmont, Lake Macquarie.

How long will the photo shoot last?
I only book one newborn photography session per day, so you will have my undivided attention. Newborn sessions are best held in the morning, when baby is settled so we acheive those sleepy baby photos we all love. I usually start newborn sessions at 10am and they last between 2-4 hours depending on how sleepy baby is. I don’t rush through sessions as we want baby to be happy so if that means a 40 minute feed, then that is what we do! Please feel free to bring a snack incase you get hungry. I suggest you don’t make any other appointments on photo day as sometimes baby could be having an unsettled day and we may need a little longer than usual.

Do I need to feed baby before the photo shoot?

Please don’t stress if you are having “one of those mornings”  but if it is possible please give baby a nice big feed just prior to your session. I find a nice big feed and a warm car ride puts baby in a nice deep sleep. We can also expect a few top-up feeds during the session so bring extra bottles if bottle-fed, otherwise bring your boobs!
Don’t stress too much about timing if baby needs a top-up when you arrive that is totally ok and we just do what baby needs.

Siblings & Children
Siblings are welcome to have their photograph taken with your new baby, it is my policy that these photographs are taken first (whilst everyone is birght eyed and bushy tailed). I normall allow 1 hour. This gives your children time to "land" and become comfortable with their new surroundings.  I do strongly suggest to make arrangements for siblings to be picked up after their photos are taken or for hubby to take them to the park so the studio remains quiet and safe for the remainder of your photo shoot.
I am located 2 minutes away from central Belmont and the waterfront. Where they can enjoy the park or local cafes. I am also only a few minutes away from Warners Bay and 10 minutes to Speers Point Park.

What happens if my Children dont want their photo taken?
I'm not going to lie this can happen sometimes but I have the patience of a saint and when children arrive in the studio I give them time "to land". They are welcome to explore and play with toys. I will then encourage your children to be apart of the photographs, I start all sessions in my lifestyle room as I find children are most comfortable sitting with mum and dad on the bed. If your children are having "one of those days" please don't stress as I want this to be a pleasant experience for them. We simply relocate! nothing like fresh air and sunshine to ground kids. I am located in beautiful Green Point and at the end of the street is a little reserve where the kids can run around and we can do "a location" session. I find once we go back to the studio most kids have warmed up.

What should I wear for my newborn photos?

Please wear cool comfortable clothing, the studio will be warm to help baby sleep. If you wish to be included in photographs then bring neutral, soft and/or cream/white colours for the "neutral lifestyle room". Your clothes will set the style & theme for your photo shoot. Boho, rustic, romantic or timeless. I recommend thinking about your clothing before baby is born so you are not in a rush after baby arrives. For siblings & older children I recommend soft neutral colours also. If you wish to use the black backdrop please bring a  black top t/shirt for yourselves, siblings can wear what they are already dressed in. Please no busy patterns, or visible licensed logo, plain solid colours work best. It is also a good idea to throw in a change of clothes in case of little accidents.

Spray tan & nail polish
No, Please don't wear a spray tan, natural skin tones work best. Your baby & family wont be wearing a spray tan so you dont want to look like an Ompa Lumpa or have orange hands. Additional editing charges may apply for colour correction. Day care and pre schools love to send children home with dirt under their fingers, stickers, fake tatoo's, nail polish etc Please ensure your children are clean & don't have chipped nail polish on as this can NOT be fixed in post production. Also ensure your liquid gels are not due for refills. It's these little things that can make all the difference.

Can I bring accessories/props from home?
Yes, Absoutley! If you have anything special you would like photographed please bring it along. Other clients have bought heirloom blankets & clothing, soft toys and cultural items. Dont worry I have plenty of newborn clothing & props to choose from so you dont have to bring anything from home for your newborn.

Do you offer payment plans? 
Yes! I offer lay-by style direct debit payment plans. You are welcome to start a payment plan before your session so you have "some money in the bank" when it comes time to choose your photographs, albums or wall art. You are also welcome to start a payment plan after your session, once you know what you would like to purchase.

Turn around - When will I get my photos?
Your photos will be ready to view 7-14 days after your session. We select your images together at your FREE design & ordering appointment. Your images will be ready to download via a password protected online gallery 7-14 days after you design & ordering appointment. Albums, wall art and products will take approx 4-6 weeks depending on the season.
